WEEKLY SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES

Language

Today, I want you to try a story workshop. Story workshop is a way to develop oral language skills and explore story elements.

1. Read a book together, or watch this video of a Leo Lionni story : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny25RTHX4vo

2. Talk about the story - Who was it about? Where did it take place? What was the problem? How did it end?

3. Gather a little collection of toys and loose parts (legos, beads, rocks, plastic animals, blocks, cotton balls... anything!)

4. Play with the collection and start creating your own story.

5. Retell the story to your parent *the important part*.

6. If you want to draw a picture of your story, that is a bonus! In class, I normally scribe the story onto the picture.

Math:

Here is an activity and math strategy called "part-part-whole". You will need to find paper and a pencil, make some small number cards to 10, and find some uniform counters. These could be beans, beads, legos, rocks, or you could cut out small circles if you don't have anything handy.

This is a read aloud of a favourite story with a directed drawing at the end!
